My parents were Henry O. and Clara L. Hanson and from sometime in the 1930s
until 1951 lived on the farm now owned by Earl & Joyce Erickson.  We belonged
to the Viking Zion Church, all of us siblings being confirmed there.  In
1951 they sold the farm and moved to the small farm coming into Viking that
I believe is now owned by (Neil) Knutsons.  After Henry died in 1962, Clara
moved into the small house beside the Frank Hanson home and gas station.
She still had one child (Keith) in school..   The 3 oldest children (Gene,
Phyllis & Vaughn) graduated from Thief River Falls High School and the 3
youngest (Shirley, Sheila & Keith) from Newfolden Hi.

In the late 40's and early 50's, Henry managed the Viking baseball team (at
some point they were called the "Viking Oilers").....among the players were
my brothers Gene & Vaughn, George, Earl & Paul Erickson, Chuck Barr, Billy
Peterson, Rodger Sackett, Kenny Halverson and Wayne Peters.  I believe Henry
was also one of the organizers of the "locker plant" and also in the late
'50s he drove a Viking school bus.

Clara was active in the Zion Ladies Aid and was one of the 1st people to
work at the Viking Community Center, along with Amy Hanson (no relation).
There was an article about them in the Grand Forks Herald (I believe).  I
can't find it at the moment, but I would think that Joyce Erickson would
have a copy of that, if you're interested.  Clara also "helped" George &
Emma Erickson when they had their twin sons.  She really enjoyed doing that.
George and my brother Gene were great friends  so George & Emma are like an
extended family to us.

Gene worked at the "Pipeline" at one time and also had a small restaurant
for about a year in the building  beside Frank Hansons service station
(which is now the house where Clara lived for several years, and I believe
one of the Neil Knutson children lives there now).

Gene died in 1981 (in Milwaukee) and Phyllis died in 2000 (in Denver).   We
had a Memorial Service for Phyllis in 2001 and she is buried in the Viking
cemetary .  Vaughn lives in Pensacola,  Fla.; Keith in Pewakee, Wi.; and
Shirley & I live in the Minneapolis area.
